The Lake and Sumter Counties Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) concluded their 18th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, raising over $43,000.

As a result of this successful tournament ten area high school Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) students received $2,000.00 scholarships each.  Additionally, eight area military-oriented charities will receive $20,000 to support their ongoing efforts for the next year.  $3,000 was donated to the Joint Veterans Support Committee for Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

“This was the most successful Golf Tournament for our Chapter in recent history,” said Don Hansen, President of Lake & Sumter Counties Chapter-MOAA.  “Providing these scholarships to some of the best and brightest students in our area high schools is a generational investment in future leaders for our country.”  “These students help to renew our faith in the future academic, military, athletic and civic leaders coming out of these high school programs.  They truly are the future leaders of industry, government, academia, and our military and we are proud to help them onto the next step in their journey.”

“Chapter volunteers planned, organized, and executed the only major fund-raising endeavor the Chapter engages in,”  said Dan Cagle, Chairman of the 2026 MOAA Charity Golf Tournament.  “In addition to generous contributions from our sponsors we also raised money from players, direct scholarship donations, and a silent auction held at the end of the tournament, impowering us to continue to serve our community and meet the goals of our Chapter. We are extremely grateful for the generous contributions, tireless efforts of our Chapter volunteers, Harbor Hills Country Club and the support of our sponsors. We look forward to another successful Charity Golf Tournament next year.”
